UCaaS and SMS are Like Peanut Butter and Jelly….
A few weeks ago I wrote a blog about UCaaS and Fax. I intimated that UCaaS, and Fax would go together like Peanut Butter and Chocolate. If that is so, then UCaaS and Text go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. See, Text also was one of the Original “M’s” in Unified Messaging.Back then, over 25 years ago, the concept of bringing all business communications together into a single app existed. And it has evolved into Unified Communications / UCaaS as a single cloud-based platform that does everything from phone calls to video calls, to transcribing email/phone calls, to fax to chat to texting.
But why has texting persisted in UCaaS? Why not just use messaging apps like WhatsApp to communicate with customers? Yes, businesses do use WhatsApp to communicate with customers and apps like Clearspan PING to communicate with other knowledge worker employers.
But texting is still a huge way for businesses to connect with their customers. Everyone does not want to call or just use email. Some customers want to connect with text. And that is great. That can happen since employees can send and receive text messages on their company business phone number.
So that means any device that is connected to that UCaaS business phone number (desk phone, assuming it has a display, computer, tablet, or smartphone) can send or receive text messages.
The text can be 1:1 from an employee to a customer, or 1: many from the business to customer set.
For instance, I receive many reminder texts from my dentist, doctor, and pharmacy. These automated texts can be managed and set up through the UCaaS system.
Or it can be a live interaction text exchange with support employees to a customer. And the support employee can even text helpful videos through the UCaaS system to the customer.
So that’s why texting is still an integral part of a UCaaS system. Come talk to Clearspan to see how we can help you unify your Business Communications.
